Texas Roadhouse Smothered Chicken Recipe

This recipe is for four servings of chicken breast filets smothered in a savory onion and mushroom sauce, topped with slices of Jack cheese. It requires a skillet and basic kitchen tools, and can be made in under 35 minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 boneless chicken breast filets
  • 1 onion
  • 4 oz 100 g mushrooms (portobello mushrooms)
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • 4 slices of Jack cheese

Instructions
 

  • Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Heat 2 tbsp of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked through. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
  • Add remaining 1 tbsp of oil to skillet. Add sliced onion and mushrooms, and sauté until softened.
  • Season onion and mushroom mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
  • Return chicken to skillet and spoon onion and mushroom mixture over chicken.
  • Top each chicken breast with a slice of Jack cheese.
  • Cover skillet with lid and let cheese melt for 2-3 minutes.
  • Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can use any type of mushroom you prefer.
  • Adjust seasoning to your liking.
    Serve with your favorite sides such as mashed potatoes, green beans or a salad.
