Texas Roadhouse Smothered Chicken Recipe
This recipe is for four servings of chicken breast filets smothered in a savory onion and mushroom sauce, topped with slices of Jack cheese. It requires a skillet and basic kitchen tools, and can be made in under 35 minutes.

- 4 boneless chicken breast filets
- 1 onion
- 4 oz 100 g mushrooms (portobello mushrooms)
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic powder
- 4 slices of Jack cheese
Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Heat 2 tbsp of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned and cooked through. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
Add remaining 1 tbsp of oil to skillet. Add sliced onion and mushrooms, and sauté until softened.
Season onion and mushroom mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
Return chicken to skillet and spoon onion and mushroom mixture over chicken.
Top each chicken breast with a slice of Jack cheese.
Cover skillet with lid and let cheese melt for 2-3 minutes.
Serve hot and enjoy!
- You can use any type of mushroom you prefer.
- Adjust seasoning to your liking.
