Equipment

  • Cuisinart ice cream maker
  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Mixing bowl
  • Airtight container for storage

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream and milk. Heat over medium-low heat until it begins to steam, but do not let it boil.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  • Slowly pour the sugar mixture into the saucepan with the milk and cream, whisking constantly until well combined.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Then, cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  • Once chilled, pour the mixture into the pre-frozen bowl of your Cuisinart ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually for 20-30 minutes.
  • Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 hours, or until firm.

Notes

Feel free to add mix-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, or fruit during the last few minutes of churning.
For a lighter ice cream, substitute half-and-half or whole milk for some of the heavy cream.
