Ingredients

  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Milk
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Worcestershire Sauce
  • Gruyere or Swiss Cheese

Instructions

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and melt 1/2 cup of butter.
  • Add 1/4 cup of flour, 1/2 tsp of onion powder, 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, and 1/8 tsp of cayenne pepper.
  • Stir continuously for 1 minute to cook the flour and spices. Keep stirring continuously to avoid burning the flour and spices.
  • Slowly pour in 1 cup of milk and 2/3 cup of beer a little while continuously whisking.
  • Keep whisking until the sauce becomes smooth after each addition.
  • Don’t pour all the liquids at once, as it may cause lumps to form. Pouring slowly while whisking will prevent lumps.
  • Add 1 tsp of Dijon mustard and 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce to the saucepan.
  • Stir well and continue cooking the sauce until it thickens and starts bubbling.
  • Reduce the heat to low and add the shredded cheddar and Gruyere cheese to the sauce.
  • Stir until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes smooth.
  • Keep stirring the cheese sauce continuously while the cheese is melting to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan and burning.
  • Once the cheese has melted, turn off the heat. Let the sauce cool for a minute or two.
  • Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl and enjoy it with your favourite snacks.
