  • Mixing bowl
  • Potato masher or fork
  • Spoon or cookie scoop for portioning
  • Paper towels
  • Slotted spoon or spider strainer for frying
  • Plate or tray for cooling

Ingredients

  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped green onions
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • ½ tablespoon of salt
  • ¼ tablespoon of black pepper
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups seasoned bread crumbs
  • Oil

Instructions

  • You must peel the potato balls and chop them. Ensure you slice the potato into small pieces or bits. Boil them for 15 to 20 minutes once you chop them.
  • Once the potatoes are boiled, Use a sieve to drain the water inside the potato. Once you have done this, return the potatoes to the pot and mash them with a potato masher or fork until they are smooth.
  • Mix the mashed potatoes with cheddar cheese and green onion until combined or blended.
Once you have done this, use your hand to mold or form the mixture into small balls. It should be the size of a golf ball.
  • Place the flour, the beaten eggs, and the breadcrumbs in 3 bowls. Once you have done this, roll each potato ball in flour. Remove excess flour from the potato body and dip it into the beaten egg. Lastly, roll the potato in the breadcrumbs until coated.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or saucepan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the potato balls to the saucepan and let them fry until golden brown on all sides. This should take around 3 to 5 minutes.
  • You must remove the fried balls after 5 minutes. Ensure the potato doesn’t over-fry. Once you have removed the balls, drain them of any excess oil. You can then add salt and pepper to taste the dish.
