  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Red food coloring optional

Instructions
 

  • In a small saucepan, whisk together the sugar, white vinegar, water, apricot preserves, cornstarch, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt.
  • Heat the saucepan over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and continue to whisk the sauce until it thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  • If desired, add a few drops of red food coloring to achieve the classic McDonald's sweet and sour sauce color.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool before serving.
