Steak (your desired cut and thickness)
Salt
Black pepper
Olive oil
Garlic (optional)
Thyme (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Remove the steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Pat steak dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper on both sides.
Heat a skillet over high heat and add a tablespoon of olive oil.
Sear steak on both sides for 1-2 minutes until a brown crust forms.
Transfer the steak to the lined baking sheet.
If desired, add minced garlic and thyme on top of the steak.
Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes for medium-rare, 12-15 minutes for medium, or 15-18 minutes for well done.
Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
