Tips on How to Make Lamb Souvlaki Skewers

Just like every other recipes I have discussed about, getting that taste like every other person takes more than ingredients or cooking accessories selling for hundreds of dollars on Amazon. There are guides to getting it right.

1. Marinate Adequately

Allow sufficient time for marinating. The longer the lamb sits in the flavorful marinade, the more intense the taste will be. Aim for at least 2 hours, or overnight if possible.

2. Soak Wooden Skewers

If you’re using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before threading the lamb. This prevents them from burning on the grill.

3. Maintain Even Size

Cut the lamb into evenly sized-chunks. This ensures uniform cooking, preventing some pieces from being undercooked while others are overcooked.

5. Preheat the Grill

Ensure your grill is properly preheated before placing the skewers on it. This helps achieve a nice sear and locks in the juices.

6. Baste During Grilling

Basting the skewers with olive oil during grilling adds extra moisture and enhances the flavour. Use a brush to apply the oil evenly.

7. Use Fresh Herbs

Whenever possible, use fresh herbs like thyme. They contribute a vibrant flavour that dried herbs may not fully replicate.

8. Don’t Overcook

Lamb is best when cooked to medium-rare or medium. Overcooking can result in dryness. Aim for a slight char on the outside while keeping the inside juicy.

How Do I Prevent the Lamb From Drying Out?

Ensuring lamb remains moist involves strategic preparation and cooking methods. First, a well-crafted marinade with olive oil, acidic elements, and herbs infuses flavour while locking in moisture. Opting for quality cuts with marbling, like leg of lamb or loin chops, contributes to a juicy outcome.

Allowing the lamb to reach room temperature before cooking and utilizing a meat thermometer to achieve the ideal internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) further ensures even cooking without drying.

Searing the lamb before slow-roasting or grilling forms a flavorful crust that aids in trapping juices. While cooking, regular basting with marinade or a blend of broth and butter enhances moisture content. After cooking, a crucial step is letting the lamb rest, tented with foil, to allow juices to redistribute for a succulent and tender final product.
